Condoms used to be the man's job, now the female condom allows woman the chance to take over

birth control

Until not that long ago the only condoms on the market were for the males and if a woman wanted to take control over the birth control she would have to use medication or other types of devices like an IUD or a cervical cap.

If a condom was to be used the woman would have to depend on the man to bring along and effectively use the condom. If the woman carried condoms she would still have to depend on the man to utilize the condom correctly. These days' women are able to take control over the use of a condom by purchasing and utilizing the female condom. Not a whole lot of men or women are familiar with the female condom and that is a shame.

The female condom is an incredible development that can do some real good in the lives of sexually active individuals.

What is the female condom?

The female condom is a polyurethane device that is approximately six and half inches long and is employed and used by the woman during intercourse. The condom lines the entire vagina and will help guard against the spreading of sexually transmitted diseases and can prevent unwanted pregnancy. The female condom is very simple in design. The sheath has an open end and a closed end both of which have a flexible ring. The purpose of the ring near the closed end is to keep the female condom inside the vagina and the ring on the open side of the female condom is meant to cover the outer entrance to the vagina stopping the condom from pushing up into the vagina.

Many of these female condoms come with lubricant inside them to make intercourse more enjoyable but additional lubricant can be used provided it is the proper kind. Spermicidal can also be used in conjunction with the female condom but it is a bad idea to try to double up on protection by using a male condom at the same time since the friction that builds can cause one or both of the condoms to break.

Though not a whole lot of people even know the female condom exists the device has been around since about 1992 and has been approved for use in the United States since 1993. The female condom is available all over the world under a number of different brand names such as the FC female condom, Femidom, Femy, Care and a host of other names.

Use of the female condom and the advantages of the female condom

The package should be opened with care so that the condom is not damaged. The woman is suggested to get comfortable to prepare for insertion. Lying down or sitting down or squatting are a few options. Check for the closed end to be nearest to the vagina and the open end hanging down. Squeeze the rig on the closed end so that it is a long shape and slowly insert the inner ring into the vaginal opening. Use a finger to push the female condom all the way into the opening being careful not to twist it up. Once the ring on the open end of the female condom is against the vaginal opening then you are ready for intercourse.

The female condom allows women to take charge of the use of birth control and can be used regardless of whether the man wishes to use a condom himself. The female condom is made of polyurethane and is less likely to cause an allergic reaction than is latex in addition to being stronger and less likely to break. The condom will prevent the woman from getting pregnant and protect her from giving or spreading sexually transmitted diseases. One great advantages of the female condom is that it can be inserted many hours before intercourse is going to happen so the mood is not ruined by the need to insert it. Unlike the male condoms the female condom can be used with a large variety of lubricants and the thin nature of the material can allow the sensation to be felt by both partners.

Disadvantages of the female condom

Though the female condom has a large amount of positives it does have a few cons. Many women are not comfortable with the outer ring being in the way and visible. Some women feel that the female condom is tough to insert and take out. The cost of the female condom is a bit higher than some other methods and is only supposed to be used one time just like even the best condoms for men.

There are some good and bad points to the female condom so speak to your doctor and talk with other users to decide if it is right for you. The more you learn about the options that you have as a women the better off you will be in every aspect of you sex life. Do not be afraid to test things out and ask questions.
