Until not that long ago the only condoms on the market were for the males and if a woman wanted to take control over the birth control she would have to use medication or other types of devices like an IUD or a cervical cap.

If a condom was to be used the woman would have to depend on the man to bring along and effectively use the condom. Once the ring on the open end of the female condom is against the vaginal opening then you are ready for intercourse.

The female condom allows women to take charge of the use of birth control and can be used regardless of whether the man wishes to use a condom himself. The female condom is made of polyurethane and is less likely to cause an allergic reaction than is latex in addition to being stronger and less likely to break. The condom will prevent the woman from getting pregnant and protect her from giving or spreading sexually transmitted diseases. Disadvantages of the female condom

Though the female condom has a large amount of positives it does have a few cons. Many women are not comfortable with the outer ring being in the way and visible. Some women feel that the female condom is tough to insert and take out. The cost of the female condom is a bit higher than some other methods and is only supposed to be used one time just like even the best condoms for men.
